We recently received government documents that represent an alarming appointment with a U.S. Medical Examiner accused of sexual misconduct charges. One source who reviewed the documents called it a “clear example of Washington’s culture of corruption.”
A U.S. Medical Examiner, appointed by U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, surgeongeneral@hhs.gov, has a set of impressive medical qualifications, if accurate. However, I am uncertain if the qualifications support Murthy’s appointment.
We received a letter identifying the U.S. Medical Examiner. The letter, postmarked Baltimore, came with a two-page “Results of Maryland Judiciary Case Search.” These are public records available to anyone. The fact that the documents apparently, based on postmark, come from Baltimore could mean that someone has an interest in the selection and appointment of this U.S. Medical Examiner.
I confirmed the cases described in the Maryland Judiciary search for the U.S. Medical Examiner. I used Maryland’s public Judiciary case search. I got the same results as those in the letter.
The U.S. Medical Examiner has 13 lawsuits. In ten of them, the US. Medical Examiner is a defendant for negligence, malpractice, sexual misconduct, and paternity.
The source also included two articles from The Baltimore Sun. One of the articles detailed the U.S. Medical Examiner’s alleged sexual misconduct. The other article detailed the U.S. Medical Examiner’s alleged surgical implants of non-FDA-approved devices in patients. We confirmed the articles at newspapers.com
Surgeon General Vivek Murthy or his staff could have obtained this information about his appointed U.S. Medical Examiner. Either Murthy failed to do so, or the Surgeon General does not care to look into the U.S. Medical Examiner’s background. Ignorance is not a defense.
Another possibility could be that the Biden Administration has no standards for its U.S. Medical Examiners. One Capitol Hill source told me that as long as a person didn’t have a criminal record, they could be a U.S. Medical Examiner. Wonderful thought, isn’t it? We sent the documents to President Biden for his review. We asked him to tell us what his standards are for appointing U.S. Medical Examiners. No reply.
Murthy’s failure to do due diligence is alarming. He has focused on elevating healthcare in America. His appointment of a U.S. Medical Examiner with sexual misconduct allegations raises questions about his competence.
Female federal personnel should be advised about alleged sexual misconduct by any U.S. Medical Examiner. They need this information if/when the U.S. Medical Examiner schedules an examination, especially for a remote, isolated location. The appointment information indicated the U.S. Medical Examiner was seeing patients in D.C.’s Maryland suburbs, approximately 50 miles outside D.C.
These U.S. Medical Examiners usually review and write medical reports. However, one never knows what happens in these hastily thrown remote get-togethers posing as medical examinations.
In June, fifteen servicemembers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Tacoma, Washington, told the Associated Press that the Army failed to protect them from sexual abuse by a military doctor. This is another example of management’s failure to perform due diligence in the selection and appointments of U.S. Medical Examiners. We hope we alerted Surgeon General Murthy and other government managers in time so they can reconsider this unsettling appointment of a U.S. Medical Examiner.
